NoRush

NoRush feature

Capture a thought before it is gone

A thought that has to wait while you find the right screen is often lost. The command bar takes it from "I just remembered" to "saved" in a few seconds.

In short

Press Alt+K on any page. A small bar opens on top of what you are doing. Type anything and press Enter to add it as a task. Shift+Enter saves it to Later. Esc closes it. You never leave the page.

Why capture has to be this fast

Working memory holds a thought for only a short time, and adults with ADHD tend to score lower on it than adults without ADHD.1 Every extra step between the thought and the place you write it down is a chance to lose it.

Capturing also protects the task you are on. Switching your attention away and back has a real cost, and part of your mind stays on the thing you left.2 3 A capture that takes three seconds and no tab switch keeps that cost small.

How it works in NoRush

  • No dead ends. Anything you type becomes a task when you press Enter, unless it clearly matches a command.
  • It works where you are. On the new tab and on any website. Key presses do not leak into the page underneath.
  • It runs commands too. Start a timer, 5 minutes, pause, done, Shuffle, "I'm stuck", sounds, plan or close the day.
  • Forgiving search. Partial words work. "shuf" finds Shuffle. At most 8 results, best one first.
  • More ways in. Type do and a space in the address bar, right-click to "Add to NoRush", or press Alt+Shift+A to open the popup.

Getting the most from it

  • End a task with a time, like "call bank 10m", and it becomes the estimate.
  • Use Shift+Enter for ideas. Later is for things that are not for today, so they do not crowd the list.
  • If Alt+K does nothing, open Settings and look under Shortcuts. It shows what your browser assigned and lets you change it.

What it does not do

Browsers do not let extensions run on their own settings pages or the extension store. On those pages the shortcut opens NoRush with the bar ready instead.

Who uses it most

Graduate students, Software developers, Writers, Entrepreneurs, Marketers, Managers. Each of those pages shows where command bar fits into a working day.

Questions people ask

Why Alt+K and not Ctrl+K?

Chrome and many websites already use Ctrl+K for search. NoRush leaves it alone so nothing you rely on breaks.

Can I save a web page or selected text as a task?

Yes. Right-click and choose "Add to NoRush" to save selected text, a link or the page.
