Focus sounds you can mix yourself

Steady background sound helps many people settle into a task. What calms one person irritates another, so every sound has its own volume.

In short

NoRush includes nine sounds: rain, sea, forest, fireplace, storm, lofi, and brown, pink and white noise. Tap one to play it, tap several to mix them, and set each volume separately. Sounds keep playing while you use other tabs.

What the research says, honestly

The evidence is real but narrow. A 2024 meta-analysis found that white and pink noise gave a small improvement in task performance for children and young people with ADHD or attention problems. The same review found that noise slightly hurt performance in people without attention problems.1

That review found no studies of brown noise at all. Many adults with ADHD say brown noise helps them, and it may, but nobody has tested it properly yet. We explain this in more detail in does brown noise help ADHD focus?

So the fair summary is: steady sound is worth trying, the effect is modest, and it varies from person to person. That is why NoRush gives you a mixer instead of one "focus track".

How it works in NoRush

  • Nine sounds. Rain, Sea, Forest, Fireplace, Storm, Lofi, and Brown, Pink and White noise.
  • Mix and tune. Each sound you pick gets its own volume slider, plus one overall volume.
  • Ready mixes. Deep focus, Rainy lofi, Nature walk and Cozy cabin.
  • Nothing startles you. Storm thunder rolls in slowly and never cracks.
  • No audio files. Every sound is generated live on your device. Nothing downloads, and nothing repeats exactly.
  • It follows your work. Sound can start by itself when you focus, and it always pauses during Meeting Mode.

Getting the most from it

  • Keep the volume low. The goal is a steady floor of sound, not something to listen to.
  • Try one sound for a few sessions before judging it. Then try a different one.
  • If sound makes you more restless, turn it off. Silence is a valid setting.

What it does not do

Sound is not a treatment for ADHD and will not help everyone. NoRush does not play music with words, podcasts or your own playlists.

Who uses it most

Remote workers, Writers. Each of those pages shows where focus sounds fits into a working day.

Questions people ask

Does brown noise really help ADHD?

Nobody knows yet. Studies have tested white and pink noise and found a small benefit for young people with ADHD. A 2024 review found no studies of brown noise. Many people find it pleasant, so it is included, but we do not claim it is proven.

Do the sounds use data or need the internet?

No. They are generated on your device, so nothing is streamed or downloaded.

Will sounds play during a video call?

No. Sounds always pause while Meeting Mode is on.
